an /almost/ perfect weekend. if you ignore a certain 30 seconds of sporting time on sunday then it would have been perfect.

i thought saturday was going to be a horribly stressful day. we were going to brum to get some wedding stuff done and my mum was taking me to my first wedding dress shop to try some dresses on. i had heard lots of horror stories about girls being made to stand in their knickers and bra in front of everyone whilst shop assistants tried to find something to suit them. also, i have read that there exists THE dress that you have to find and it could take months to find THE dress, but you would know when you had found THE dress.

turns out that finding THE dress was as easy as finding THE man. went into shop, saw dress, tried dress on, bought it. that was that. i did have to stand in bra and knickers for a moment in front of one shop assistant. it was then i realised that a see-through bra perhaps wasn’t the best choice for the day, but she was very professional and nice. they did try and put me in this huge floor length veil at one point though. everyone was cooing over how lovely it all looked and i just thought “help, i’m stuck in a cave of lace”. soon got rid of that.

i was in the shop for no longer than half an hour. i have spent longer deciding on a pair of jeans. it was a weird experience though paying £550 pounds for a dress and thinking “oo, how reasonable”.

we also sort of sorted out cake and flowers things, so everything is really coming together now. this organising wedding lark is easy, don’t know why people get stressed about it. you just see what you like and book it/buy it and that is that. maybe i am missing something.

we did lots of family things too as always when we are in brum. then on sunday i went down the local social club where i used to barmaid to watch the local derby with my dad, brother and his wife. the villa v blues derbys are reallyreally bitter so it was always going to be an interesting match. there was a heavy steward presence down at the club and the concert room (a huge room where the shows are held) was packed out. they had the match on a big projector screen by the stage. i expected the mix of fans watching to be 50/50ish but it was more like 95% blues. so it was a little dodgy when we went 1-0 and then 2-0 up. about 10 villa fans in the corner cheering with about 200 dirty looks coming our way. well they needn’t have worried, since despite us having lots of chances the final score was 2-2, with blues scoring the equaliser in the last 30 seconds of injury time. gutted.

this is all very boring i know, but it was great to see a villa match again. i have really lost touch with it all over the last few years and i had forgotten how much i love it. one day i will go back to villa park again. doubt i will be able to wangle a child’s ticket anymore though.

oh, i have added a couple of new links too. they are great. phd comics is the story of my life. especially this one.

found magazine is really interesting. it’s a collection of things that people have found and it gives you an intriguing snapshot into the life of a stranger. like when you are on a bus/train and you make up the life stories of the other passengers around you. i am slightly addicted to the find of the week page.
