take the power back
recently you might have seen things like this, about the change in people’s size between the 1950’s and now, and this, the new tv thing to get people to lose weight. it’s everywhere you look now: you are what you eat, celebrity fit club, be good to yourself, slimFAST dammit. it has always been everywhere though, as far as i can remember, but it used to trade on the positive. lose a few inches and look great in a bikini, enhance your life and feel better about yourself. now it’s all about do or die, literally. we’re all so fat, how can we eat white bread and look people in the eye?
a couple of weeks ago i turned 25. that’s 10 years since i first threw away my packed dinner at school (so sorry mum) after a boy told me i had legs like tree trunks (and other assorted comments). thus starting the twisted relationship with food that is so so common in girls and women (and some men i suppose). it’s so silly though, i am happier, healthier and slimmer when i’m not obsessing about what i’m eating. it’s so much easier to get through the day without snacking on stupid things when you aren’t constanty thinking about it.
so, i have decided that 10 years is enough of my life to waste on it.
funnily enough, after i started writing this post i noticed this article on news.bbc. guess it’s not just me then.
