heil santa
kirkby is a funny place.
for the past two christmasses (maybe more) the centrepiece of kirkby’s christmas lights has been a cheery snowman, waving at all the passing traffic. sorry, did i say passing, i must have meant queueing. the unfortunate thing was that the lit up snowman just had two positions, arm down by his side and arm straight up. because of this we fondly named him nazi snowman.
last year kirkby decided to do something special for the people and make a big todo of turning the christmas lights on. they organised this big, colourful parade, something to really warm our hearts and bring out the christmas spirit in all. it was a sound plan, except for the fact that they decided to hold this parade on a friday at evening rush hour and close the main roads running through kirkby. not to worry though, they had thought this through carefully and had put in place a diversion around the closed town centre…to the local co-op car park, which only had that one entrance/exit. so anyway, 2 hours later we managed to get home and write a stinking email to the council ranting all about them closing all the roads to home just to turn on their nazi snowman.
so, tomorrow (friday) they are closing the town centre and its main roads at 5pm for a christmas parade to turn the lights on. the thing is, there is now a big empty space where nazi snowman once sat. i guess it’s a result of a sort. just not the one we were aiming for.
