stuffy stuffy stuff

electioneering

i take quite a lot of interest in political stuff these days. i guess it’s part of the whole getting old thing. tonight i am mostly looking forward to jeremy paxman’s interview with michael howard. based on previous encounters it looks certain that mr paxman is going to rip him apart. i think it will be pure car crash tv.

thing about this election is that it’s very national. of course it’s national, but i mean that if you didn’t take time to read/watch the national news then you wouldn’t know it was going on. i have never seen a canvasser, the “vote for me” posters usually plastered on the lamposts are nowhere to be seen and we haven’t had any bumpf (love that word, although i might have made up the spelling) through the door. actually, we did get something through the door yesterday. it was our latest edition of the ashfield and eastwood news, which i thought was odd because we have never had /any/ edition of it before. then i noticed it was all about one person. he must be a real local hero i thought. it was carl who spotted the subtley placed conservative logo on the 3rd page. it was like this guy was doing everything he could to disguise the fact that he was a wannabe conservative mp.

i think people who want my vote should try a little harder to get it. seems like they are just relying on their leaders going on tv to promote their cause, rather than working for themselves. if i was that conservative guy i would do some less closeted campaigning before mr paxman ruins his chances.

been a while

gosh, it has been a long while since i put anything here. it took me a while to remember the url to login to my blog.

things have been very busy with work and now that things have eased off a bit there, things are now very busy at home. plans to move house are gathering pace and so we are trying to get our house ready to be valued. lots of paint and carpet and trying to remove the traces of black cats from the walls. oh, and the red wine mural i made in the living room (i have titled it “oops”).

i like our house, it’s pretty and cosy and when it is clean and tidy it looks great (i think anyway). i will miss it when we move. i won’t miss kirkby though. it isn’t a hugely bad place, but it just seems to have lost hope after the mining industry around it went into decline and there is nothing there now to give it back. it’s a shame, because it has a lot of potential and it is in a good location. hopefully soon it will find its place in the world again.

so we are looking southwards, down by long eaton and castle donington. house hunting is strange. you see these butt ugly houses going for £200k+ and you just wonder who they are going to sell them to. we have been to see a couple of new developments too, built by barratt homes and the like, who are selling houses not unlike ours at the moment for about £150k more than ours is probably worth. we looked at a seriously pokey 2 bedroomed show home the other day that was going for about £120k. you had to wonder why when there are 3 bedroom semis on the same estate going for £150k. there are nice houses around though that we can afford so hopefully we can catch one of those.

i find house buying really confusing. it seems like a bad idea to sell your house before you have got a new one to move to, but you also don’t want to buy a house before you have managed to sell your old one. i’m not really sure how it works and hoping things will all just fall into place like usual.
