stuffy stuffy stuff

electioneering

i take quite a lot of interest in political stuff these days. i guess it’s part of the whole getting old thing. tonight i am mostly looking forward to jeremy paxman’s interview with michael howard. based on previous encounters it looks certain that mr paxman is going to rip him apart. i think it will be pure car crash tv.

thing about this election is that it’s very national. of course it’s national, but i mean that if you didn’t take time to read/watch the national news then you wouldn’t know it was going on. i have never seen a canvasser, the “vote for me” posters usually plastered on the lamposts are nowhere to be seen and we haven’t had any bumpf (love that word, although i might have made up the spelling) through the door. actually, we did get something through the door yesterday. it was our latest edition of the ashfield and eastwood news, which i thought was odd because we have never had /any/ edition of it before. then i noticed it was all about one person. he must be a real local hero i thought. it was carl who spotted the subtley placed conservative logo on the 3rd page. it was like this guy was doing everything he could to disguise the fact that he was a wannabe conservative mp.

i think people who want my vote should try a little harder to get it. seems like they are just relying on their leaders going on tv to promote their cause, rather than working for themselves. if i was that conservative guy i would do some less closeted campaigning before mr paxman ruins his chances.

The only local campaigning I’ve seen is a Veritas-flyer-covered board outside one house on our street each with a big photo of Robert Kilroy-Silk’s face. Which says a lot about Veritas, because Kilroy’s not standing here, and Amber Valley’s Veritas candidate doesn’t even get a mention. It’s not just a one-issue party, it’s a one-*personality* party. And that personality is a vain, patronising old bigot who’s still upset at losing his television show. Seeing his desperate attempts to artificially prolong his time in the limelight is hilarious to behold. Mark my words, in 2006 he *will* go on _I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here_.

I always spelt bumf as bumph, but I just looked it up and it has both ways. However, according to http://www.dictionary.com it comes from “bum fodder” (*snigger*) presumably something to do with using it to wipe with.
