had my 16 week appointment with the midwife yesterday. have another wound and bruise from the latest blood test. i am getting better with them really i think. not so much panic and worry. although i do wonder how much better i can get with them, since it’s the thought of it all that really does it for me and that doesn’t change.

hearing the heartbeat was so magical. as carl said, it’s the first thing we have heard from baby. she put cold jelly on my belly (jellybelly, hehe) and found it almost straight away with the microphony thing. it was really loud, strong and clear and much quicker than a normal heartbeat. the coolest thing was when baby moved and the midwife had to chase him/her to get the heartbeat back. such a relief to know that everything is still all good.

so weird as well to know that i have 2 heartbeats in me now. but then, everything about this whole experience is fairly weird.

all of our weekends until august are booked up now. normally this would annoy me, but these weekends are all full of happy and fun things.

the summer of fun kicked off on saturday with joe and hannah’s wedding. it was a great day, everything went perfectly and much merriment was had by all. joe and hannah looked really happy together and joe’s mushy bit in his speech was so lovely it nearly made me cry. carl looked great in his kilt and i was proud of him doing his best man duties so well. some photos of the day are here. didn’t take as many as i wanted to since i was loaded down with carl’s stuff and official wedding stuff after the ceremony (kilts need pockets) and then later on i put some batteries in the wrong way and so camera stopped working. i got some amusing ones and some lovely romantic ones, so i’m happy.

other fun things coming up are trips to snowdon, the lake district, safari park, family visits, another wedding, a christening, an airshow and a party on a boat.

before experiencing pregnancy i thought it was just a bit of sickness, tiredness and a growing tummy. but the biggest symptom i have had is a real enhancement of my sense of smell. carl’s bloke’s guide to pregnancy book i bought for him says that this is so i can detect evil substances more easily and so avoid ingesting them. great, but it also makes the kitchen a really unpleasant place to be and i have to hold my breath when opening the fridge. and i’m not feeding carl baked beans and sausages again until things have gone back to normal. it’s weird to feel yourself changing all the time in what seems like really random ways (transformers, susie in disguise).

oo, and i think i have started baby-related tummy expansion now. this occurred to me the other day when i went to undo the top button of my jeans to relieve some pressure, but it was already undone. it’s quite liberating really. don’t need to try and suck it in anymore. people can look and think i look pregnant and that’s fine, cos i am.
